11. Cut away a portion of the copper piece, so that
it can be placed in the blanking die. It will look like
the figure shown. Be careful to not cut away the
registration hole! All three holes are important
for proper registration.
12. Temporarily place the pins in the three holes so
that the copper is aligned with the blanking die, and
tape the copper and die together.
13. Remove the pins, and use the press to blank out
the copper piece. You are interested in keeping the
outer portion of the copper. This becomes
the template for the subsequent work to be done in making
the matrix/blanking die.
14. After blanking the copper, and while it is still
taped to the die, notice that the shape of the pattern
is the mirror image of the original.
15. Use the pins to align the copper to the red painted
side of the CRS. Very carefully scribe
the shape of the opening onto the steel. Where the "hinge"
portion of the die meets the shape, draw a line across
the opening. The blanking die will not cut this portion
and you want to make it a simple "snip" to
get rid of it.
