On the other hand, some things are done so well that maybe some people will always want to use them (^8#.
I'm not trying to be a smartass (I don't have to try) but there are loads of processes that are still done by hand 'the old fashioned way' . In plenty of cases there may not be a better way at all, and in some maybe the only better way is full-on robotics. In the case of die sawing, there may not be a better way than what I do now besides a cnc wire edm , and I have avoided that for the most part for some very practical reasons. But really, my setups, using original BD sawguide guidance systems , are highly customized and I'm so used to using them that I don't really want to have to learn on another saw . Also, it would no doubt take me time I don't have, to customize new equipment . It's simply easier to fix the old gear and keep using it because it works and I know it well. All that being said, I do like the idea of having one of the new motorized saws as a third option , alongside my precious leg-powered manual BD saw, and my other precious prototype gearmotor driven BD saw using the original design. It has taken several years (granted I do
most of my sawing on the manual one) to get good on this saw . It was scary, literally frightening , and rather dangerous at first , and hard to control. That's part of why I've held out so long: I just know that I won't be good on the motor saw right away and I hate that. Why, that's why I only played golf for one summer a few years back: it was totally frustrating , and even infuriating, to
suck so bad at something that's supposed to be fun. I couldn't deal with it; I thought " I can either be mediocre at golf or guitar playing , but trying to do both and being awful at both is unacceptable ". Golf had to go . Right call, and sawing the old way is the right call too, though it appears I have finally caved .
Maybe it won't be so bad.... but I'm sure I won't stop using my old saws much , and I will also take (probably) years to get as good with the motor saw as I am with my old ones. I've sawed heavily on 5
different saws since 1987 , and each different design took quite a lot of getting used to .
