Deep Drawing of Vessels

Phil Poirier has been doing quite a bit of work on this process since I
mentioned it to him and described some of the techniques at a workshop
that I taught in Albuquerque NM last year.

The idea was to be able to make a straight sided vessel using the press,
and then do some forming of the piece. You start with a disc of 18 gauge
metal (let's say 6" in diameter) and through a series of pressings, wind
up with a cup that is 1-7/8" in diameter and about 6" tall.

Phil has posted a set of images on his website that I think you will
find interesting.

The path to the html page is thus: go to his website,

www.poirierstudio.com/gold
click on the "Workshops" page and at the bottom of the page you'll see a
link for "Press photos"

By the way, take time to look at the other pages on his site as well. I
am sure that you will fine some real eye candy there.
