Example of coining die for pin.

Phil Poirier had requested images from others that have done coining with a press. I just got a digital camera so now I have no excuse for not participating. I have never posted an image to this forum before, so we will see. I will post the picture of the die first and then the pin as I am not sure if it is possible to include two pictures or how to do it.

I engraved this die with a 1940's Gorton Pantograph engraving machine and coined it in a 50 ton press in brass. The pin is about 1" square and was a special commission piece. Usually I engrave coining dies about .012" to .015" deep. I used oil harding steel for the die.
