b) didn't want it to fall off from weak joint;precise positioning is
critical . the die fits on the mold in only one spot; resoldering accurately could be a problem.

a2) permanence. now the join is maintenance free; screws on the big leaf break regularly.

a3) soldering was supposed to be easier

Obviously I made a less than brilliant decision . Next time around
I might try locating pins and low temp solder. Or screws. Probably screws. Just have to drill and countersink the die before it gets heat treated. This one got back from heat treating (it was sawed first) before I was sure what I was going to do with it. Didn't have the right stuff to drill & sink hardened steel.

As far as posting mistakes.... it's kind of fun. Most things work
eventually, and if people learn , it's productive. So much of what
we're doing with presses is new (at least to us as individuals doing things ourselves), it's nearly all useful data, no?.
