Actually UHMW (ultra high molecular weight) polyethylene will be  equal for this purpose It is  about as slick (slicker even?) as teflon and very  much cheaper.  You can buy 4" x 48" strips  1/8" thick and I think 1/16" from Woodcraft or Woodworkers supply.  You can cut it with anything sharp  --  a  boxcutter type razor knife  probably is best. Teflon is what we used  for the application but it needed to be liquid oxygen safe.  Virgin teflon is all new material, mechanical  contains recycled scrap resin, bondable would normally be virgin  teflon with usually one  surface etched with a special HF  acid treatment to make adhesives stick.
