>I haven't tried that but have done similar technique with a matrix set up.  Cut out shape in cast acrylic with brass face plate and carve out detail / design in brass "flange" of the shape.  Can get some nifty results.  Gotta watch that brass is thick enuf so carving doesn't get too thin and tear under repeat use.
