EASY,EASY Anticlastic Stake Preparation

Here is a very easy method to make an anticlastic stake in Delrin or wood. I just tried it for the first time and it WORKED SO WELL!!
I bought a set of cylindrical rasp bits to fit into drill chucks. I put the bits into the drill press chuck and attached a "stop" to the side by clamping an embarrassingly rusty (live near the beach!!) old adjustable square to the table. The "stop" can be adjusted to move the Delrin rod to a different area. Simply hold the rod on the table against the stop, slide it into the rasp bit and rotate the rod. The white dots on the end of the rod tell me where I am in the rotation process. The curvature on one axis is determined by the diameter of the delrin and the depth of cut which can be graduated from one end of the cut to the other. The other axis curvature is determined by the size of the rasp and depth of cut. The cone shaped rasp shown in the pic was raised or lowered (in relationship to the table) so the rasp diameter can be varied without even changing the bit!! For more drastic curvature changes change the bit to a different diameter. A little clean-up with sand paper gets rid of the sharp edges. It took me about 20 minutes to make the "stake" in the pic. ....Jack
